Me and the old man were walking around the yard and he said I should bury them in straw. We went over there and the ground next to the straw was like the most pillow-ey, silty dirt in the area. It was perfect.
I just used a fork to turn it over a few times and bam, ready to go.
He also showed me a spot where he had thrown some chicken shit years past. It was the most beautiful brown dirt I have ever seen. Im going to clean out the coop this year and toss all that shit (literally) into the compost cage I made.
That cage can hypothetically hold 90 cubic feet, thats a lot of beds I can fill!
Beets, radishes, and chard are coming up
Planted the tomatoes. They were still a bit on the small side but I planted them anyway. I still have about 6 more in pots if they fail.
Also put together a makeshift chicken wire fence. Hopefully it keeps rabbits out. Im sure a determined varmint can find its way it, but hopefully not as easily. It kind of looks like crap, but I just wanted to get something up.
The peppers are really not wanting to grow. Both the ones seeded inside and out are just not doing much. I will let them grow for a few more weeks and then plant them as is, hopefully they start getting bigger.
I also planted more sunflowers near my garden to attract the bees to it, some Big Max pumpkins, rhubarb, and I just need to find a place for the watermelons.
For the onions I planted 5 of them in cinder blocks as a test run. If it works Im going to set up an onion and garlic cinder block row somewhere in the backyard.
