You can do a number of things. If it isn't completely severed, you can actually tape it up (I like to use teflon tape but you can try something else like cloth strips, etc - maybe some foil to keep it firm and dry, etc) and in most cases, the break will heal on its own if the branch is supported and splinted somehow.
This 100% I also usually put some Olivia's Cloning Gel on the wound. It helps the plant regrow tissue faster and keeps it clean in there.
sadly the break is complete, it was laying on the ground while the plant was on the porch, I stuck it in the soil next to the rest of the plant but it is wilting and dying, I don't think there is anything I can do. What a shame, all those little baby tomatoes. Thx for the advice Greenup, I'll remember that for future reference
Make green tomato jam!

Hi all! Tomato update, I splinted the broken part back onto the stub using duct tape and a pen lol. I just stuck it in place and taped and guess what! it stopped wilting and is going strong, I don't know if it will last but we are 4 days since splinting and all the small branches, leaves etc are still unwilted. Time will tell if it worked. I didn't know about cloning gel and would have no idea where to find it as well as hubby would not pay for it since it's "just a dumb plant". KVR - my daughter did the same thing with a baby maple tree, she just taped it back together and it's fine now, although the tree break was not a complete break. Spotted Horses - I have used honey for jelly and syrup and it does work fine but we are not big honey fans and have come to think of honey as medicine since I make cough syrups etc with it and that's about the only time we consume it. As far as green tomato jam, that would be great if they weren't grape tomatoes haha, there are only about 10 teeny weeny little tomatoes on the broken branch. this particular plant has 3 main stems the branch that broke was one of those main stems and broke off near the ground.
Thank you all for all of the tips and suggestions, and that great video of grafting.
Well, 4 more days have gone by since my last update on the tomato plant and I am so excited about it's progress, the splinting actually worked, the tomatoes that were on that stem are growing bigger each day, there is no more wilting than there was 4 days ago. I did pluck off a few of the very obviously dead and not coming back leaves so the plant would not be tempted to expend it's energy on those. I would have just thrown that stem in the trash if it hadn't been for this board, a BIG thank you to everyone that contributed ideas. And I noticed today that my rosemary is branching off! It's growing new branches and getting...fluffy? More full? anyway, you all know what I mean hehe. Thanks again! - Sylie
