Ok, so the title is a bit misleading but it is a great way to save money, store food longer and keep it fresher.
I already vacuum pack fruit the I dehydrate, as well as beef jerky(never last longer than a few weeks around the house), value packs of chicken. By doing this and freezing them you can increase the shelf life from weeks to months.
Here is one that you might not think about.
Flour and cane sugar
During the holiday season, sugar and flour goes on sale. I got this 5 lbs bag for $2.58 and when stored on the shelf as it, it usually last a few months. Once all the air is out, this thing is solid as a rock and will keep for years sitting on the shelf.
Just don't forget to date the items so that they can be rotated.
What other ideal do you have?
we do a lot of rice in canning jars, we hit up the orchards to pick up extra fruit and such to dehydrate and vacume seal, also look for pineapple on sale, when it's 89 cents a can I grab a case and dehydrate and vacume seal it. I wonder how well dry milk would do for emergency situations. Great thread priceless!

I have a box of powder milk, I will have to give it try and vacuum pack it. My jerky is ready and will need to be packed. The sugar is as hard as a rock and hurts the hand when struck, but will last a long time.
I also make my own Oatmeal with brown sugar, strawberries and cream, vacuum pack them and use them on the trail when hiking or camping.
Dehydrate and make awesome vegetable soup that I vacuum pack and carry with me as well. Can make what ever size I want from single serving to family size and since it is dehydrated it last for years.
