I came across this article in MEN the other day and found it interesting

MEN-AS10-gkh-self-seeding-plants-1.jpg

http://www.motherear.....z2ZNgFJgi2

this is the list of self seeders they had

34 Easy Self-Seeders

Herbs: basil, chamomile, cilantro, cutting celery, dill, parsley

Vegetables: amaranth, arugula, beets, broccoli raab, carrots, collards, kale, lettuce, orach, mustards, New Zealand spinach, parsnips, pumpkin, radish, rutabaga, tomatillo, tomato, turnips, winter squash

Flowers: bachelor button, calendula, celosia, cosmos, nasturtiums, poppies, sunflowers, sweet alyssum, viola

what other things have you guys seen that keep coming back, one that I have noticed here is ground cherries. BJPencil sent me some seeds 3 or 4 years ago and they kep coming back, even this year with my wife weeding out everything and the chickens dust bathing in the raised beds, they are still kicking

Good info for sure.

I love ground cherries, they could be a good candidate for the food forest!

I planted ground cherries this year for the first time. I had no idea they were so prolific. They really took off and are reaching out into the other beds at this point. Anyone have any good recipes besides tossing them into a salad?

you can use them as any soft fruit, jams, wine etc. Yeah I was shocked how big they grew the first year, logan clark said to plant like 2, I planted 8, I had ground cherries coming out the ears, I think I am going to make a spot along the back fence and just let them go

I usually get a few tomato volunteers as well. They are always good too. If I leave my potatoes in the ground, any ones I havent eaten will come up the next year. Turnips, and a purple mustard.

I love this concept!

I think I'm going to do a fall planting of taters and see how they come up in the spring, I had posted that article about it a couple months ago, I need to look for that
