so we placed some straw bales on the pond this winter for the ducks
When the pond thawed a couple weeks ago, I tried grabbing the bales and pulling them out. Waterlogged they are way to heavy. So I figured I would wait till the yard dried out more and scoop them out with the tractor.
I walked by today.
@ashleigh11 you have used strawbales, what are your thoughts? Is it wicking from the pond and growing leftover seeds in the straw?
I had discussed trying to recreate floating beds in the past in the pond, straw floats, I am going to throw some strawbales in the pond tomorrow and see what happens, will report back.
Extra added benefit, straw helps control algae. This guy tried an experiment, he says it failed. There is a marked difference in surface before and after, I don't think he waited long enough.
