No, but I have seen the process for maple syrup, Im sure its similar?

The key is knowing how deep the spiel needs to go, otherwise you wont get proper flow. Then it drains into a container, and then its boiled down. You need a ton of it. I cant remember the ratio but there is a reason that real syrup is almost $20 for a small bottle.

maple is about 40:1 ratio

i read a article in the paper about some maple syrup producers in quebec starting to make birch syrup as well. IIRC ratio is even greater for birch

the number I have heard thrown around was 7 times as much sap for birch then maple

You would need to tap an ungodly amount of trees to get enough sap to pour over your families pancackes for one meal then

that means you would need about 280 gallons of sap to get 1 gallon of syrup. that is a lot of drop to go in the bucket...
