I was pretty excited to receive this years johnny seeds catalog. Being in Maine we are able to drive to johnny’s and pick up what we need and not have to wait on shipping. With that being said there were three items I wanted to get any johnny’s last year and they didn’t have them.

But there are some other options available as well. One of the biggest local sources for most people is wal-mart and they are also a good option for soft fruits and fruit trees. One thing I’m not to big a fan of getting from wal-mart (or any big box stores) is seedlings. We had a huge blight problem here in New England a couple of years ago and it was tracked back to the nursery that supplies most of them.

A member on another forum by the name of MGT had exposed me to growingyourgreens.com and the man behind the camera john. He did a great video on wal-mart seeds several years ago and was quite amusing as well.

Some people had asked me about personal seed banks. One of the most inexpensive ones I know of is

I have seen some of their competition offer less of a product for almost three times the price.

Whatever you end up getting though, make sure it's non-hybrid and open pollinated so you can start saving your seeds. Peace

You know I may just go with Patriot for my seeds this year. I like what the guy is doing and he has great prices.

My garden this year is going to be very focused. I only plan on growing about 8-12 different vegetables is all. I want to master those and get to a point where I just know the ins and outs of that seed.

that's the way I'm leaning now to B, we had been adding multiple things each year, last year was insane, I want to keep it under 12 items this year

same here B, I'm going to try to focus on a core group of veggies that we already eat, and try to can what I have left over. I think my experiment for the year is gonna be trying corn in a square foot gardening box.

well, looks like my non-gmo garden will be coming from mypatriotsupply.com. Looked around a little bit, and it's hard to beat their prices for what I want, plus from the reviews the packaging is top notch as well. I guess I'll let you all know in a week or two once I get my order in.

funny story, he is the sponsor of a homesteading forum I am a member on, he was running a sale for members of the board and had a coupon for 20 percent off. I made a thread on the sg about it and with in 30 minutes he posted on the homesteading thread about the incoming traffic from the ninjas or karate masters from mma.tv. I apologized and told him I would never link a coupon from him again. He laughed and was cool with it.
