you can make a garlic and soap spray to help with them, CQ has a good post on her blog on how to make it

my kale is getting eaten by something. The leaves are full of holes. I'll try to put some pictures in tonight

Any idea what that would be?

Could be slugs, aphids are a possibility but you usually see them all over the place if that's the case. Slugs tend to hide from the sun so you won't see many unless it's early morning before the sun is out. You can deal with them by taking a dixie cup (or any other small container) and burying it up to the brim in the garden bed, then filling it halfway with beer. The slugs are attracted to the beer, fall in and drown.

i will try the garlic spray. Saw some aphids on a tomato plant. I don't want that to spreada all over

I will also put the beer thing to see fore slugs. Keep in mind though that i am in the city, so it might attract a bum instead of a slug.

you could also introduce lady bugs to the garden, they will control the aphids for you
