Several years ago I helped run an experiential program for violent male offenders age 14-20. I spent about 250 days/year living out of a pack in the field. Traditional pack food gets old pretty quick. So I got creative with my dehydrator, and since the program was supplying alot of the food (it was a medium secure lockdown residential program) I still basically just had "institutional" type food to mess around with. With that in mind....

I made dehydrated;

Taco Meat (Delicious!)

Black Beans

Salsa

Red Sauce

Scrambled Eggs

Soups

And alot of other "experiments" with widely mixed results.

Yeah, liners. comes out like a fruit roll up.

We would drop it  in a nalgene bottle in the morning with someb water & with all the sloshing around in the pack we'd have salsa for dinner. same for th taco meat. the beans wed just add boiling water & stir.

I cannot speak to long term storage. id make stuff every 6 weeks or so, so we didnt really try longterm storage.
