Rather than just doing a medicinal thread, I thought I would just do one for the wild things I gather both for food and medicine.
I found this beauty today.
Chicken of the woods above, chanterelles below. Both are distinctive, easy to identify and absolutely delicious!

Chantrelle's love the relationship with certain hardwood trees (oak, birch and some fruit trees are popular.) I'm an amateur mycologist, and word on the mushroom hunter grapevine is that it can take up to 20 years for a proper mycorrhizal relationship with the surrounding trees. A good patch of Chantrelle's can have an underground network of "roots" that's hundreds of feet around the actual mushroom patch.
Ooh. Leroyj I would love to learn more from you. I only know a few, and I understand the basics of identifying them, and I love to eat them!
Oyster mushrooms that I found today
Sorry I didn't have my camera with me to take a pic of them growing.
The chanterelles this year have been unbelievable! Every where I walk! I found another two chicken of the woods yesterday!
