thought it would be a good idea to list any goals we have and then compare at the end of the year see how we did. Can be projects or skill building
1. Get a dairy animal
2. Get my composting area more productive
3. Build outdoor cook area
4. Build cabin
5. get more knowledge about food preservation without using energy

Get our green house built (the plan we have decided on will be 16'X32' with a cement fountation). It will be a big project and I don't know how productive we will be growing wise this season simply because I can't start building til the snow is done. But its has to start somewhere- Plan on documenting the build for the boards.
Fenced in area around the green house for compost & chickens & raised cold frame beds.
Get some chickens, lol
have alot of wood to clear for wildfire mitigation (was ignored for several years by previous property owners
We need to do the roof in the next year or so, but really looking at that roofing panel w/impregnated solar so we may need to save another year for that
Get our pigtain/cutoff installed (thanks for posting the vid KVR!) and find a reasonable generator.
Put up at least 100gal of "just in case" water, probably a couple 50 gal drums.
Get, at min, rice & beans stored to last leveral years
Pretty sure we will make the winter with the amt of wood that I put up this fall, so its good to have a rough idea of what the min needed is, but I want to increase that by 50% just for piece of mind, so I've got ALOT of sawtime in my future. Will have to hit it this spring, early, because I think it will be just too dry to run a saw safely this summer.

We're looking to build a new garden fence. The double fence method was successful until the fall when the newly antlered deer ripped it up.
Plant blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Maybe a couple paw paw trees.
I also want to apply more permaculture principles into what we do. We've ordered a bunch of perennial seed and are planting much differently this year.
The chickens are on order and I have to plan and build the tractor.
I plan to build a solar dehydrator this summer and we want to try to can more than we did last year.
It's possible that we might work on improving our irrigation, but that may have to wait until next year.
We have so many plans. We have about 35 things on our ToDo list and time is really the limiting factor for us at this point. I posted on Facebook a week or so ago and found 2 out-of-work carpenter-types that are willing to work for cheap. Hopefully the weather will break by next week and some of these projects can get started. Some highlights:
- Resurface swimming pool - this includes sand-blasting, patching, sealing, and painting
- Insulate Pole Barn - we have a 1700 sqft metal pole barn that is just unusable in the winter due to the cold and drafts. We're looking at using the poor mans spray foam insulation technique: http://howtohomeinsu....._foam.html and combine that with framing and R19 roll insulation with dry-wall on top to really finish up the pole barn
- Clearing brush - we started this last weekend, but I want to get whatever brush cleared that I can before things start blooming
- Build a website - I've gotten tired of trying to keep track of all of my projects/pictures/etc. all over the place and think it'd be best to store them all on a website
- New floor in clubhouse - I'm thinking about putting in some laminate click and lock wooden floors
Many, many other things....

Yeah, I'm a little worried about our fence getting defloured by a frisky buck & even more worried about the bear being attracted to the delicious smells of chickens/compost/greenhouse. The bear are only a problem for a few months of the year as they move thru our area in spring and fall between the hills & the river corridor... but they are bastards when they are around. Our first meeting was this fall when I heard my recycle bin a rustlin. FIVE bears hanging out in my driveway! Mom, a yearling, and 3 little bastards. Mom & junior got right out when I started yelling, but those 3 little bears were holding their ground, "whumping" and stomping like little badasses. I think they are going to be a problem..... took me 20 minutes to run em off & the whole time I'm thinking "mom is just right on the edge of where I can see, waiting for me to cross some invisible with her babies", lol.
The "big brave malamute" was hiding under the covers with Jennifer while I waged battle in the driveway........
Anyone have any tips on how I might go about making a tougher fence?
KVR- If the greenhouse goes as planned, it'll be a sight to see! We're prety excited. We went back and forth on several different directions we could go and finally landed on something I had drawn up on the back of a blank EMS report while killing some time. Co-workers boyfriend is a cement guy, so he is going to help me set up the foundation piece. Should be a pretty simplebuild actually. I'm going to try to remember to take alot of pics along the way.

Stark bros nursery. I think you just need two different varieties, not necessarily male and female. We're probably going with a mango grafted pawpaw (vanilla custard flavored fruits) and a pennsyvania golden pawpaw (banana custard flavoring).
