Yeah little to no job market at all, land is cheap, the growing season is short... they grow like 70 day corn.

and improving things is expensive. Note they paid a logging company to build their road in... easy 10-20k or more just for road building, its very easy to sink more into a property then it will sell for. Land clearing is a huge expense as well.

 

Aroostock county land sells commonly for 500 an acre or less, good crop ground for maybe 1000. It is a cheap place land wise, but harsh weather, hard economy and expensive gas and everything else. Great place if your really want to be alone, other then that well...
