I'm a big fan of the tiny house movement due to the thought process of downsizing and simplifying your life, but the thought of living in 140 square feet does not get me excited at all. Besides the fact that most of the ones being sold commercially are 40,000 to 60,000 dollars.

I was driving out to get the pigs yesterday and drove by this sitting on the side of the road.

So being an inquisitive person, I just naturally had to stop and talk to the people about it. They informed me it's called a park model and is designed to go into campgrounds, RV parks, etc.

I had never seen one before so they showed me around and I was very impressed, it has a full kitchen/dinette, bathroom, master bedroom, loft and living room.

I was slightly intrigued, so when I got home from picking up the piglets, I hit up craigslist and this is what I found.

Used park home rv 12x37 2 bedroom full bath with fiberglass tub, stove, frig. fully furnished as seen new steel roof, all in working order, good size master bedroom with big closet second bdrm is bunks comes with deck 4x8 larger decks available. $12,750

1993 Quailridge Park Model Camper

Park Model Camper or Camp. Log sided with loft. 12'X34'
The Screen room is 12'X24' with two doors.
The loft easily sleeps four on twin mattress, or you could put two full mattress up there.
Full bathroom. Master bedroom accepts queen size bed easily might be able get a king in there.
Fridge and gas range included. Both work excellent. Microwave included, works but is small/weak.
Siding is in excellent condition, New steel roofing two years ago.
Flooring is original and showing it age, nothing torn or ripped. It is very serviceable as is.
Gas furnace works excellent as well.
The porch/screen room all comes apart fairly easily. The deck under the screen room is made in three pieces and comes apart with screws.
I will assist in having this ready for hook and haul. Such as installing the hitch and tires and getting blocking out of the way. I will assist you in dismantling the covered porch and loading it on your truck/trailer. I had this moved from OOB two years ago and it cost me $600 to move just the main camp.
The part of the deck that is not covered is not included.
Would consider land in Madrid Maine with year round access and power at the street in trade or.
$15,000 FIRM

These next three are a more traditional park model camper, but for less money you can get a slightly bigger space.

1999 44' Breckenridge Park Model with two bump-outs.

Kitchen has a full size propane stove/oven, a full size refrigerator, double sink, small microwave, and plenty of cabinets and counter top space. The counter top at the sink and stove is Corian.
Bathroom has a full size stand-up shower, a residential toilet, sink / vanity with storage underneath, floor to ceiling cabinet.

Why buy new when you can have "LIKE NEW" at a fraction of the cost?

So for a single person, retired couple, someone looking for a get away spot,  or a young couple just starting out, these might be a cheaper option to start following their dreams, especially if they don't have the tools or knowledge to build something themselves.

Thoughts?

My only complaint about most modular or trailer type of home is that they depreciate in value.

I can see the benefit of them especially with my own situation.

Around here banks will finance loans for modulars and trailers but not a house you build yourself.

yeah, there's only one bank I know of around here that allows owner builders, and the hoops you have to go through are pretty crazy
