You've got to let the local LEO know even if it is just to document it. Is there any way to make a berm over your back property line? To supplement a rise or fall in elevation as it meets their property?

Yeah, we could probably put up a berm along the back of our property; however, their acreage is already quite a bit lower than ours. Since they were noticeably intoxicated when I went over there, my thought is that they must have been shooting almost straight up the air; there was a good 7-8 second delay after each shot before we'd see a bullet graze my yard or hit something. No dirt berm is going to stop that kind of stupid. My wife, dad, and I talked it over and decided against calling the police; people up here don't fire on all cylinders... These guys were already itching for a fight when my dad and I nicely went over there originally to talk; they didn't seem right and were definitely half-cocked and ready to blow. With my wife and kids home during the day when I am at work, I am not going to start anything I cannot keep an eye over while I am not home.

All in all, we love the house and our land up here, but the location has us more than a little concerned and I think we are passed the point of wanting to stay here. We have not been able to find any kids our 6 year old daughter can play with; most of the neighbor kids her age are as foul-mouthed and inappropriate as guys I used to work with in construction. My wife gets cat calls at the store and last week some random guy apparently made elicit comments right in front of my 3 kids to my wife at the grocery store about taking her clothes off. Needless to say, she doesn't feel safe to shop without me now.

I've mentioned the other neighbor before who's kids I have had to have multiple discussions with about staying off my property with their dirt bikes and snow mobiles (and not stealing my firewood ).

We are pretty confident that a move will be happening in the spring; it's unfortunate but Flint doesn't change because people here don't want it to change. I like my job and I don't mind working in Flint, but I won't subject my kids and wife to living in Flint if this is the way it will be. There are lots of nice areas within 20-25 minutes of my job; some battles just are not worth fighting.

Wow Jon, that's crazy.  Hard to believe there are places like that.  One person is bad enough, but a whole community?

I have friends that live south of Flint in Fenton and Grand Blanc and really like it. The little towns on the I-69 corridor-Perry, Corruna, Bancroft, Swartz Creek are all nice little towns.  Unfortunately, you'll probably find some of the redneck element in all those towns.

Good Luck!

I grew up in Linden just outside of Fenton; nice area. I think we just moved too close to the north end of Flint; there are a lot of nice towns to the south.

I know you know about that KVR; I remember reading a post or two a ways back about yours from back in the day. It's amazing how it can affect your entire outlook.
