You can get an oil called cedarcide that works very well also. In the house I used borax this year as a preventative and it worked well. I don't know if that would be ok with the chickens though.

It is. I've used it a lot. I had no problem with the borax either

I think I'm gonna try cedarcide but man is it expensive. I figure I'll spend $200 to do the whole .5 acre yard. I haven't heard many bad reviews, but I would sure hate for it not to work if I'm spending that much money on it.

I actually thought about making my own spray from cedar oil and some soap. Cedarcide claims to be 85/15 cedar oil and solvent. I figure I could order a gallon of oil for $130, get some mild soap, and make my own cedarcide. That's still a lot of money, but its a little cheaper. I emailed the cedar oil provider and asked some of these questions. I'll let you know how it goes.
