I like the idea of permaculture zones. Putting things right next to the house that you do all the time. Putting things so that if they need constant tending they are on the way to somewhere you go anway . So by dumping the compost or taking a dump in the outhouse you pass the chickensn. Keeping perennial plants that need less tending in a further away zone.
Take your time planning it will save or cost you a Iot of energy over the years. l also like the way chicken tractors can be used to open up spaces to plant stuff. gl.
