Hey, I just wanted to do a post on our aquaponics system. After tweaking and customizing it over the last 6 months, I think we've got it pretty much solid.
It runs off of only 75 watts and contains 2 large inground fish tanks. One has 20 catfish and another has around 60 Tilapia. There are a bunch of river prawns in our center growbed.(which we use for deep water culture and growing water plants) The rock growbeds are pretty awesome for propagating plants from cuttings and allows us to grow tons of spinach, herbs and other edibles. The only problem we've had, is finicky tomatoes in the 95 degree windy weather in NW Guanacaste. We'll try again in the next month or so.
We recently added sedimentation collection tanks that really helped out. The cool side thing is, they keep solids out of the growbeds and produce great fish poo sludge to pour into our dirt gardens. No more need to buy/make fertilizer! I'll post a video later on http://survivalgardener.com how I made them. Got a FB page too http://facebook.com/.....algardener
Here's a video tour of the system
Thanks!!
