Well the weather and work didn't cooperate so my project has had some slow ups. As of now though I have built two chairs, and two tables.

Here is one fully completed and painted, the other just has primer:

I am very happy with how they came out, although if I were to make more of the same design I would make the arm rests a bit higher. For being my first outing building furnitutre though I am very pleased.

Table 1

I just bought some legs off of a guy on Etsy and re-purposed a wooden wine crate. I received some advice on doweling on another forum, but decided against it because the wood of the crate is not very thick. I reinforced the wood crate from the inside with scrap 1x2 pieces from the chairs. Cut out holes for the legs, glued them in place and used 2" wood screws. I didnt countersink either due to the wood not being very thick.

All I have left is to stain the wood, and seal it up with a laquered spar varnish.

The legs are perfectly even and the table doesn't rock and feels sturdy. If it still looks great after varnishing I make make more for gifts.

Table two is a re-purposed Port crate. The main use of this is a table to put my record player on. I have a small portable turntable I use out on the terrace. I just got some legs from home depot and mounting plates. It is surprisingly sturdy, and will be stained and laquered tonight.

It really was a rewarding experience.

I built the two chairs for a combined materials cost of about $75 including paint and primer ect, but not tools.

I built table 1 for $20 including stain and varnish

Table 2 for $30 including stain and varnish.

I didn't really own any tools, so my total tool cost was about $75, but I expect to get much use from them for the cost.

Oh.....

The picture of table two, I hadn't pulled the staples, sanded and attached the lid yet so it looks uneven.
