For me, knowledge is the key. It is more important to me that I have practical experience and knowledge of how to do something, so that I can rely on that knowledge if needed. I.e., if I knew how to raise pigs, but a friend could do it for around the same price, I'd probably let him work on that and move on to the things that I do not yet have experience doing.

But my response may be influenced by my general lack of knowledge about a lot of things.

I agree with CP. Knowledge is the key. I would love to do everything myself, but with the dominant culture of mortgages etc., there just isn't enough homesteading time to do it all. However, although I don't do everything myself, I do constantly acquire skills and knowledge.

There are some things though that just don't fit into my nature. Building for instance. I just don't like construction work and because I don't like it, I don't make an effort to learn it.

Fortunately Danger does like it and is good at it!

I like to barter for the things that I can't produce myself whenever possible.

There is a reason people used to have so many kids. It really is difficult to do everything yourself. Even if you have the knowledge the skills and the tools

My work is very physically demanding. When I'm home I work hard on growing food and putting it up. It is a huge effort just to keep the wild flor at bay.

I simply don't have the time or physical energy to build anything.

I am going to be asking for some help to get a secure chicken run built this summer.

About 10 x 10 would do it. I want to attach it to the coop so that on days when I am gone till late they can still have access to it.

I dont want a tractor. Having to move it regularly woud be mor than I want to deal with.

I guess im in going to have to learn construction.

I learned now to use a weed eater yesterday. Loud and smelly but it has to happen

I hate weed wacking, if I could find a old powerful fence charger, I would run electric along the bottom of all my fencing and just kill it, of course knowing me, I would probably start the fence on fire
