never buy a new car, always buy a 4 to 5 year old one, don't get stuck in the mcmansion trap
I try to buy almost everything used if possibly. Before you go to buy anything other than food, toilet paper, etc. check craiglist, facebook swap groups, and the newspaper to find it used. I just bought my wife a 17" Dell laptop with number pad only a month old for $230 on facebook, a lady was hard up for cash and I wa the first to respond.
Once you do go to the store to get it new check the clearance section first. I found a 12 cup coffee maker regular $30 for $10 since the box was torn. I needed a flood light for the garage one time and found a 2 pack of $4. I went to the clearance section of Walmart an found a 6pk of the EXACT SAME BRAND AND MODEL bulp of $6.
Lastly I make my own laundry detergent. A 5 gallon bucket for about $4, as opposed to $6 for a half gallon. I might make a new thread with the recipe for anyone who wants it.

heres a recipe for easy dishwasher detergent
2 cups of Borax
2 cups of Baking Soda
4 small packets of sugar freelemonade Kool-Aid (you can also use 4 tablespoons of citric acid--if you can find it)
White Vinegar
vinegar goes in the rinse aid , author claims he spends .65 cents per 100 loads

Vinegars can be used for all sorts of stuff and it's dirt cheap.
Treat skin conditions.
Carpet/Floor cleaner - stain remover
Window cleaner.
Food preservation.
Deodorizer
Fabric softener - it will also help keep your washing machine from becoming musty
De-greaser
All sorts of stuff.
well tested today , and DAM does it work. permanent marker on the wall, on the couch, crayon on the wall, cat puke on the floor. vinegar is my new wonder cleaner.
