I would have never thought to make laundry soap. I have thought about trying bath/hand soap. I might give this a try too.

Doesnt the borax eat through clothes?

I guess in a large enough quantity it would. However this only has like a cup of borax for (eventually) 10 gallons of detergent. I have never heard of anyone having a problem with it.

Someone posted on facebook the other day about the Fels-Naptha not being good to use if you have a septic. Does anyone else know anything about this? It is the first I have heard of it.

wtf pics? how much did the batch cost to make al?

The 20 mule team was $5.39 for 4lbs. 12oz.

A&H washing soda was $3.49 for 3lbs. 7oz.

We picked up some Clorox Greenworks Oxi $4.99 for a 3.5lbs. tub (this was on clearance $3.00 off)

We didn't see the Fels Naptha in the bar soap isle so we bought Caress soap. Grated it up then watched the video again and thought the Fels bar was bigger. So after googling the bar I found that the Fels is not a hand soap but a washing detergent enhancer and stain lifter like the borax and washing soda. So back to the grocery store and we found the Fels with the detergents.

The Fels was $1.73 a bar for 5.5oz.

I shredded the Fels and added a touch of the Caress soap. I did add some fabric softener we had in the cabinet.

Tomorrow I will do the final mix to make the 10 gallons.

This pics is 5 hours after making. We got a few suds during the melting process by adding some water after it started to melt.

10 gallons makes enough for 160 loads

We spent $16.00 dollars today. The price of one bottle of Tide. I will need to buy more Fels Naptha for the next batch but all the rest of the ingredients we will have. Enough to do this at least 10 more times.
