we don't burn a lot of wood, check it once a year, have only cleaned once since we've been here, with the oven now though probably going to tear the whole thing apart twice a year, talking to people though, they clean weekly or monthly, should I increase my cleaning? wat do? this is the amount of buildup after 4 years of burning, realize that's only about 4 cords of wood though

reason I'm asking is I started a fire and I can hear the creosote dripping down and hitting the top of the oven

I would get that cleaned out. Thats a lot of build up for that small amount of use. Its better to be safe then sorry.

I have never cleaned mine over seven winters and it looks nearly new inside. All the wood I burn is two years dry and because of the heat stoarage via an indoor wood gasification boiler, it is allways a very hot fire. I have been to busy to keep up with the wood boiler for most of this winter, but when I do it only burns three to four hours every other day.

A couple years ago when I had time to keep up with it I was burning about five or six cord and keeping the house pretty warm.
