I was restacking our firewood yesterday and was shocked with how much we had actually gone through with it being such a mild winter, this is all we have left from 2 cords

Cry me a river! 6+ cords here. We could have burned more especially towards the end. I am basically out of wood now and stopped running the boiler.

lol, that's really not that bad, you have about double the square footage of me plus use it for hot water don't you?

Can't wait to see what we go through next winter with the wall down.

What wall down? Are you changing your interior layout?

Good year.  Insulation/Umbrella helped a bit (not charged, finished it just before winter).  Under a cord for sure 3/4 cord most likely.  Used more for making maple syrup then i did for heating our home.  Hope next year will be a bit better.  Want to get a whole pile of mulch on the rear exterior heat collector.  Its a pile of woodchips about 6 feet outside of house connected to dry earth with no insulation to charge insulated earth with a slow biological burn that leaves compost.

SO K , it looks like you went through 1.5/1.75? cord?  pretty damn good.  plus you occasional cook on your stove as well so that saves on electric.

Pork? What do y0ou use when out of wood?   Maybe those pine tree's around your place will help buffer from winds.

Yes, now that the daughter is out of the house we tore down her wall and expanded the living room, the island in the kitchen is coming out as well, working on moving all the electronics now.

Pretty much, that is about what we go through during a normal winter, goes to show important that layer of snow is for insulation value

That's great Speed. I think the winds chill our place quite a bit, the insulation is 10 years old so there are better products on the market, and just the way boilers work they burn more wood. We have a regular propane furnace for back up... which is $$. We don't have much wood on the property so I have been buying our firewood already cut and split. It's less expensive than propane and allows us to also heat our water and our garage and for my wife to keep the house at 75 degrees.
