Anyone have some good knowledge on Infrared heaters?

We bought a Eden Pure about 4 years ago...worked great and was not a power pig...we paid up for it since we wanted a good one.  It crapped out and 2 of the 3 bulbs blew...about $95 to replace them all...hard to put that money into it when I see other brands out there going for $90 for a complete new unit.

...there are so many types/models out there...anyone have a recommendation?

We have had this duraflame for about 4 years now, no issues, it heats up to 1000 square feet and keeps our whole house comfortable when we have needed to use it, they are right around 120 dollars.

http://www.northernt.....200632847I had it up in the cabin when we were drywalling and painting so I moved it down to the workshop.

We got this lifezone from walmart to replace it in my daughters cabin and it is suppose to heat the same amount of space but I don't think it works quite as well as the durflame.

Any idea why the bulbs blew?

Thanks for the recommendation.

Not sure why bulbs blew...it was plugged in a dedicated 20 amp line.  It was only used a couple of days a week and not abused...So I am at a bit of a loss on this one.  Unless there is a usable life on the lamps...unit was about 4 years old.

Just bummed that we paid about $250, based on research and a recommendation...I think it should have lasted a lot longer.

Where are you using it? Would a propane unit be better?

Using it in our basement here in the burbs.

Our idea is that for the new place we would have the coal/wood stove for main heat...followed up by a couple of infared heaters for back up/heat if the fire goes out (we are putting in a stand by propane generator)...just want to get a couple for that main reason.

...not to take the thread too far off track...heating for the new place...the plan is:

1) have the wood/coal as main heat.

2) infared heaters for back/up & heat when/if needed.

3) putting Pex in the slab, but not planning on hooking it up right away.

....this is the plan for sure at this point.

The question now is putting in a through the wall/vented propane heater for back/up and heat...the idea here is that the unit is not terribly expensive and easy install.  Again...biggest issue is finding the right unit and spending money wisely...and try not to re-do a project if I don't have to.

when we first moved to Maine we had bought 5 acres and were building a cabin, the camp next door was owned by some out of staters, nice people and we got to know them well, they had a empire propane furnace (like out of a mobile home) and a wood stove, it was built in so you really didn't notice it, can usually find them pretty cheap on craigslist, kind of like ths one
