I know there are several members here that have a ton more experience felling trees than me, question for you
looking at this picture
when I was shown to cut years ago, I was shown to make my notch cut a undercut and my back cut a couple inches above that, so that it creates a hinge point that stops the butt of the log from possibly kicking back on you, is that correct?

it depends on what kind of facecut you make...

i use a humboldt facecut so i have to make my back cut higher
