Paper wealth does not matter in the end.
Getting out of the 40hour workweek took a lot of effort but that is key. It does not leave you enough time to gain any traction. In fact the IT department i worked would not allow me go part time even though I had my school agreed! I quit, cashed out state retirement and with the support of my school started my own business.
This allowed the first downsize step of 20 hours a week! wow that was cool...i should do more. Eventually now (course of say 4 years) its now down to 12 hours a month at about 9G/yr (income taxes become nothing) which sustains my portion of the family things indefinitely (even slowly gaining). Eventually I will quit totally but I got this great project that needs to sell before the next step.
PUTTING A NICE CABIN ON SOME NICE AFFORDABLE LAND(Like KVR said in a previous post) :
The really cool cabin is done now awaiting shipping!! When this sells I will pay off our digger then we have no debt AT ALL and should have around 10-20G of seed money for another fun land project and to purchase seedlings for our food supply .
I hope that story is relevant. I think its what we need, more examples. It just shows that get can the f out of that lifestyle. The path taken will most likely be very different for everyone.
