I have come to same conclusion...this summer we are building alot of stuff inside house and a food storage area with thermal stablility (not sure how "cool" it will be ..but it should be static which i think is important? Right now...we have almost none and its becoming a problem!
Had the same idea to build one outside but it seems like you said K, that rodents and stuff would be of concern ...if things really got bad (lots of snow) i'd rather have food in/attached to house. I can keep an eye on tihngs in here..our whole root cellar could be eaten or whatever outside and i might not know until i needed it, Plus i'm lazy and don't want to trek up the hill everytime i need something from the storage area...maybe an overflow storage room outside for temporary storage ?
Seems like your current setup kvr, works pretty good besides not enuff space?
Attached garages do seem good Gravel!
