Ah well come on you guys know the answer.
It is easier for guys like me to post questions and pictures about a hobby such as shooting, than it is about things that require work, such as building or growing something.
One is a hobby that appeals to the nature of people, has a large marketing machine behind it, the other, well it requires work.
And all joking aside, must not change the approach and be careful with the name.
This is coming from a guy that eats out almost, well I mine as well say every meal.
The other day I woke up feeling a bit sick, not a problem, but balance was gone.
It hit me, I did not even have enough food or drinks in the fridge/cabinets to feed me that day.
How do you drive to the store or restaurant without your balance ?
You get the point.
Many households find themselves in a similar situation, although not quite as exaggerated or to the level as mine.
As food prices and energy costs increase (and as the level of service and quality in resturants steadily declines) the idea of preparing for TODAY/EVERYDAY is becoming more attractive. It just requires work.
More and more people have a small garden and a few chickens, admittely not as exciting as hearing about the next HK, but maybe one day it will be.
As for me, think I will start with a Costco card (excuse me, I mean uh hum Costco Membership) and try eating at home a bit.

that's a good point willie. We are more apt to discuss a hobby rather than (what some moght see as) a chore. I'm sure it will even out soon, as kvr says. I have a lot to learn from the security threads. Totally a gun novice. But I am a numerical stat freak, lol!
Related to your point, what I am about to say may sound a bit harsh.
We must remember like any sport/hobby/interest shooting/gun collecting is made up of many different folks, but thing I am forced to wonder about at gun shows is people in extremely poor health spending so much time worried about their security and need for "protection."
Don't get me wrong it is all part of a hobby, something to be interested in, but I often do think of the irony of people eating (lack of exercise/lifestyle choices etc) themselves to an early grave, waddling around a gun show out of breath sitting to rest, worrying so much about being mugged or someone storming their home. Yet these folks could extend the quantity and quality of their life with a better diet and a little exercise.
(don't worry I am trying to look in the mirror)
As far as being a novice, unless you want to get involved in it as a hobby, sport, or for pure collecting fun, all you need is good safety habits, and a few basic items.
