We had finally closed on our new property last week before I had to make my road trip down to Pennsylvania. Yesterday I really didn't feel like doing much so I decided to go out and walk the new property and spend some time in the woods. It's good for helping clear my mind.
This is the discontinued road going into the property. The gentleman on the right has 800 acres I believe. There is a a land owner on the left, then my property, then another land owner and then pcso112's 40 plus acres is after that. The road is only used as part of the snowmobile trails so pcso approached myself and the other land owners about gating the entry due to people dumping back there and just leaving it open in the winter for the snowmobiles
it's a little hard to see, but the pond is back behind the trees

our property starts right about here in on the left, there is a outcrop here that we are thinking of building down behind it, my wife wants the house to be invisible from the road
if you look down the road you can see a stand of white birch that overhangs the road, that's where we believe the property ends. I have to get a line survey done on that end because we believe that the property is much larger than the 20 acres we bought. psc0112 bought a 18 acre piece and after having it surveyed found it is actually 43 acres. The issue is they are old deeds and tax maps that haven't been updated in years.

the property slopes down to the left as it continues down the road
and it starts to meet with the marsh area
the woods are mostly large oak, I really hate to cut some of them down, but I'm going to need to clear some out
the farther you go along the road the woods open up more
we own some on the other side of the marsh as well
this would be another option for a building spot, it sits down low from the road and if the trees ahead were cleared out there would be a good view of the pond

the neighbors has a ton of old logging trails meandering up through his woods
everything down to the left is the land owner next to me, it's a family that have their hands in all type of business's including construction. They were operating a gravel pit on their property for their construction business for years but have discontinued it at this time
the road washes out here in the spring, there is actually a small stream running down the road farther back in the woods

time to turn around and head back to check out the pond
here is what makes us think our property is much larger. I know where psco112's property line is between him and the gravel pit, the question is where is the line between the gravel pit and us. I would assume the gravel pit owners would have their line well marked. This is the only flagging between us and the gravel pit pcso112, my wife and I found.
remember those white birches I said were hanging over the road that we thought was where our property ended according to the tax maps? These are the same birches all the way down on the left from standing where we found the flagging.

this is the low spot down below the road, it's relatively flat

this pic gives a better frame of reference, you can see the roof of our fj sitting up on the road, I think a round cordwood home wood be sweet built into the bank
this is the other side of the outcrop when you first hit out property, my wife likes this location because you wouldn't see anything from the road, Like I told her though the only people that would be on the road would be snowmobiles occasionally and our neighbors

I personally like this spot here, you can't see it, but right behind the trees is the pond
the area is relatively flat and sits way down from the road

the two trees are on a island in the middle of the pond
I'm probably going to bring a professional to help clear the trees. I'm okay with a chainsaw but it looked like there was a heck of a storm that cam through and there were hangers and widow makers all over the place, I'm all set with that. In my younger days I would have jumped right in, with age comes wisdom
the woodpeckers were having a field day with the trees
this is the spot I was thinking of, there is a stand of cedar that if cleared out would give a great view of the water plus cedar is a ideal wood for a cordwood building.

at this point it started raining pretty good, so I headed up to car and drove out to the main road. This is the view from the road and you can see the island sitting in the middle. pcso112's family farm sits up behind the hill on the left. There is a old trail that goes up over the mountain and I could be in his backyard in about 5 minutes with a 4 wheeler
our property sits right behind the 2 tall pines straight ahead, that would only be the issue I could see with putting it there is anyone could see the house from the road, I might have to rethink this
and that concludes the tour of the property, I can't wait to get started.
