the kids were picked up again for neglect, because they were at the park alone
The Maryland parents accused of child neglect for letting their children roam freely had to retrieve their children from Child Protective Services after they were removed from a park Sunday by police.
Montgomery County Police and Child Protective services are in a joint investigation of Danielle and Sasha Meitiv for possible child neglect for allowing their children to walk freely.
At approximately 4:55 p.m., Montgomery County Police received a call to check on the welfare of the Meitiv children at a Silver Spring park. Police say officers found the children unattended.

Do they even have boy scout stores anymore? I remember going to one when I first signed up as a child. Or is everything just ordered online now.
Yes they do. There are several stand alone stores here in MD, as well as a few actually located at Scout Camps. I'm sure it's probably a lot different than you remember though. The one I go to is REALLY nice. When I was a kid, I had to go to a Dept. store (Hoschild Kohn's) for scout stuff, and it was 3-4 display cases on the second floor.
One case dropped
A Maryland couple investigated for neglect after letting their two young children walk home alone from local parks have been cleared in one of two such cases, their attorney said in a statement Tuesday.
Child Protective Services (CPS) began an investigation into Danielle and Alexander Meitiv back in December after a police officer stopped the couple's children, ages 6 and 10, about halfway through a mile walk home in Silver Spring.
The family has said they're responsible parents who are teaching their children self-reliance and responsibility. The parenting style has been labeled "free-range."
Their attorney, Matthew Dowd, says CPS has "ruled out" any charges of child neglect in that case.
But the Meitivs remain under investigation for neglect related to their a second incident, as the children walked home from another park April 12. The children were held by police and Child Protective Services for more than five hours that day.
"The county officials' actions were a completely unnecessary overreach into the personal lives of the Meitivs," Dowd said. "Unfortunately, the children and their parents have suffered from the actions of county officials."
Maryland says free range is not neglect
Maryland officials have taken steps to clarify their views about children playing or walking alone outdoors in a new policy directive that says Child Protective Services should not be involved in such cases unless children have been harmed or face a substantial risk of harm.
The directive, part of a public statement to be issued Friday, follows a nationally debated case involving “free range” parents Danielle and Alexander Meitiv, who let their young children walk home alone from parks in Montgomery County.
The Meitivs say they have gradually allowed their son, Rafi, 10, and daughter, Dvora, 6, more freedom to walk on their own in areas they know. But police twice picked up the siblings as they made their way home in Silver Spring, and CPS neglect investigations ensued.
The Meitivs were cleared on appeal last month in one neglect case. They are awaiting a decision in the other, they say.
