if you haven't seen it, there is a follow up thread with things that I would have changed with the design if I could do over, one of the biggest is install carpets! Cement floors, dogs and a wood stove do not work well, dust is a huge issue.

I'm glad you brought that up, I was going to ask you how the concrete was on your feet and backs. I'll look for that thread. I've watched a couple earth sheltered videos and the floor theme seemed to be bare concrete so I was assuming it was a necessary feature.

well it is to a certain extent to act as a heat sink, but the way our house sits off true south, we really don't get the thermal gain that we should.

But if you are serious about using this method and I can work it out, I would fly out for a week to help you get started when the construction begins, might be able to pull together a group of people to be honest, would just take some planning. It would be the first thehomesteadingboards.com building seminar!

That is very generous of you, I would certainly be interested if that is how this all works out. I am going to get Rob Roy's book to get a better handle on everything, and any other resources you think would be worthwhile.
I'm strongly considering this and the wife is on board so far. I'll need to research further and once I've made the decision, I'll start putting ideas and designs together and run it past you and the community if you don't mind.

If you and the wife want to fly out this summer for the weekend and inspect the property and ask any questions feel free. We have had several board members here visit and a couple members even help built it. All you have to pay is for the flight and a room, meals are on me, unless you are fine with a sleeping bag in the loft of the barn then it's just a flight
I know it's a big financial commitment
But I will not be responsible for 3rd degree burns
