it's not! i couldn't decide to start one here just to move everything up north so i'm pushing the timeline for the homestead forward so that we can begin. pretty much everything we do (produce) will be around the idea of 3's. one for us to eat every day, one for buddha (temple donation or needy kids) and one for sale or trade. we eat one fish every day so we need 3 fish, we eat one chicken every day so we need 3 chickens etc.
If you define rich and poor by paper wealth then sure
I believe self sufficiency and sharing that with others to be the richest life imaginable. Let someone else be a cog doing the same thing day in and day out, not benefiting from taking risks/just existing with no power over your own life. blah.
Someone whom is self sufficient can choose how the exist in the world. They receive direct feedback from the world around them, Taking responsibility and crafting their relationship with the land through direct action. What richer life could their be?
