I read up on this a while ago; it's a very cool concept for urban revitalization. As someone who works in Flint, Michigan, I can tell you that this sort of thing works. We have similar programs here.

would be cool to get a group of people together like the urban farming guys did out in Kansas,

detroit is suppose to have a pretty good urban farming base as well, there was a documentary on it called urban roots, but I can't find it anywhere on line
