This is kind of piggy backed off another post but got me thinking.

For those whom want to have only land taxes as a bill keeping the tax bill manageable is pretty important. I have a bunch of thing id like to share on this but what are things that you guys are aware of/use to keep thing tight?

I will start with one:

Keep outbuildings (maybe even house) on skids.

As long there is not a foundation the case could be made that its temporarily there and will not be there next time assessor is there. Maybe you make them for a living so its not technically yours. The tiny house people are almost there...why put wheels on it at all..if you move it a flatbed is all you need.

This not only keeps your assessment low but provides you with unlimited flexiblity. You dont have to worry about if you move losing everything and having to start over. Even on the same property uses change through time and certian microclimates might be better in different seasons. I have a few more idea that expands on this too but lets here from you all!

I like the idea. Saves you money and can easily transport your house to different locations.

good thread, I think a small primary residence with extensive outbuildings helps as well, it is the method we utilize to keep them low, we have about 2500 sq ft of space on our property, only 840 is our house, the rest is all "sheds"

thx greenup!

nice kvr!! We also got our bike shed which is made from really drystack block (no surface bonding cement) so its moveable as well and we live 60 ft larger ,what can i say ..just a baller i guess. I hope this does not put us in a higher tax bracket. Funny how many similar things we gots going on.

very much so speed. One thing I was surprised about when we built the house and had the tax man look at it, he wanted to get into the house. I asked why, he said because he needed to see what type of finishings we did on the inside. I said not a chance in hell, it doesn't matter if I have granite countertops or formica, that has no bearing what so ever. Besides I have three very protective dogs in there, you can try running the gauntlet if you'd like. He never did go inside lol

We did it by dodging the tax man... but they found us. In MI you have a Primary Residence Exemption (PRI) which removes the millage for school taxes off of your bill. Don't know why they do it like that but our bill should be half of what it was this next year. I think our taxes will be $1,500 to $2,000. I am hoping the low end of that.
