Get the extra set of rims...less running and screwing around...been there done that...buying the extra rims was the best thing I did, should have done it earlier...and if you get in a pinch, you have one hell of a set of 'spare' tires.

I have used them and I really considered buying one.  Like anything there are good ones that are easy to use...and there are crappy ones  that just frustrate the hell out of ya.  That all being true...the post hole digger and the tractor it's paired with have to be a good match (oh, and you have to take into account the type of ground you are drilling too and soil moisture).

I have only used them on fairly decent mid size tractors that were pretty stable and solid and had good results.  I found that for holes about 2-3 feet or less they were good...any deeper and it got rough, a lot of strain on the shaft (even with clearing the auger off and cleaning the hole out), broke a lot of sheer pins and a couple of tips.

If  you can find a good used one for a good price I would go for it.  The used one's I saw were either trashed or the guys wanted almost as much as a new one.  I know that some of the manufacturers that used to be great are very poor now...the gear box is the big issue (next to poor quality metals).

This place has a good series and I know a couple of people that have their PHD are happy...everythingattachments.com

You really need to respect this piece of equipment...IMO it is a two man operation, no exceptions...this is one of those things that ranks pretty high on the safety scale.

They make ones sized for a BX. You want the PD10.

Land Pride used to be some of the best 3 pt attachments around.  I know a few guys that bought that brand about 10 years ago and they were junk.  Maybe they turned things around.

Back in the day, King Kutter was good stuff.

...like you say...height is the issue most times.
