Hello Homesteaders!

I was reading a really fascinating article in last Month’s Mother Earth News and inside it was a really cool illustration of a home that became off-grid. It illustrated what pieces of a property and house would be used of plants, livestock, renewable energy, a water source etc…. in a very digestible fashion.

Since I am a development TV producer…. it got me thinking that a really cool show, would feature a self sustainable consultant, who each week makes a home owners dreams come true and gets them one step closer to quitting their jobs and becoming self sufficient.

So….. I am the hunt for someone that know’s the inside/out of what it takes to make a property/house self sufficient. Ideally this “consultant” is able to break it down in a monetary way, that would allow people to achieve their dreams of leaving their 9-5!

If this is you, or you know who would be perfect for it - please email/call anytime. Look forward to speaking!

Hey @originalmedia, thank's for offering this to our members, I got your e-mail and just responded. Can you explain a little more about what your thoughts are on the project?

I was originally contacted years ago by the producers of doomsday preppers.

I discussed it with several members here and we all agreed that there was a concern the way the community would be portrayed. It appears our concerns were accurate.

If you are serious about an accurate portrayal of people trying to live a simple and self sufficient life, I would be interested in talking to you as well as several of our members I think.

Now I'm curious to read that same Mother Earth News article he says was from last month. I'm going to have to seek it out. I'd like to see what illustration he's referring to.

This also made me curious about how much if any could be learned by looking up the person and the production company...

I don't believe that is the article he was referring to. That is more about land management in small scale farming and you've posted it before. It is from back in 2011 (and is technically much older as it is an excerpt from a 1976 book). The way he phrased it: "article in last Month’s" makes me think he could have been referring to an article in a more recent copy of the magazine or newsletter.

a really cool illustration of a home that became off-grid. It illustrated what pieces of a property and house would be used of plants, livestock, renewable energy, a water source etc

He specifically mentions off-grid, renewable energy, and a water source, none of which are mentioned in the 1-acre article. While I suppose he could be embellishing on actual details to closer represent his show concept, that's oddly specific which makes me think those were specifically mentioned in whatever article he's referring to.

Looked to see if he posted the same question elsewhere and looks like he only asked here. But I did find 2 links he posted in the past for a different homesteading (technically boatsteading) concept on 2 other forums...

Doesn't look like he does any follow up on posts. Just wants phone calls or emails.
