Updates from the PorkChops homestead | General Homesteading Discussion | Forums

Here are a few updates since we have come out of our winter hibernation:

- Restarted the garden. Strawberries survived the winter -- my wife started a lot of plants indoors. So far everything is thriving.

- Had to fix my solar pole mount after a big storm. The array did fine by the pole in the ground got shifted ~15 degrees. I had a backhoe come out and push it straight, then I cast a concrete pad around the base of the pole. 16 80lb bags of concrete.

- I ziptied together some pallets for a simple playhouse. Took about 10 minutes.

- We picked up 2 kittens as future barn cats. They are adorable and fun. There home is the solar barn. 

- I picked up 12 chickens this past Friday -- 8 currently laying hens and 4 pullets. We are getting eggs -- great because we never got a single one last year from our previous flock.

- I have had coons eating the corn from my deer feeder. I went out last night with my new AR pistol in 300 AAC and shot one in a tree. Killed the coon and deafened myself. My hearing is still not right in my left ear -- let that be a warning to you all! Ear pro!
