What is kickstarter?

it's a website for people who want to fund different projects, the one I linked is the people are building a earthship greenhouse with aquaponics integrated

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/434/065/7b21dbed33e59af6f34d63abacca9921_large.png?1362853503

what they plan on doing

We will film and document the entire process so that we can then provide the plans at a very affordable price so that everyone can access them. Any proceeds will go towards creating an organization that will travel and build these greenhouses for those unable to build them independently.

so basically they are having people funding their construction project and then they are going to sell the knowledge how they did it

This is something I was just looking at. But Kickstarter is pretty specific that it must be a project that you have something to share. Like in this instance it is they are providing a video.

There is nothing wrong with that- just that I am sure that not everyone wants to share that much. Not that I have an aversion to helping people. I plan to study natural medicine and help people who cannot afford it- because I am currently looking for natural medicine practitioners for my health and cannot find anything I can afford.

Anyways- another site I was looking at for raising donations is:

http://www.gofundme.com/

This one also has the options for donation incentives - and allows you to share directly to facebook as well.

The "problem" I see with this one it is 5% fee taken off ever donation to the site for hosting and then 2.9% + .30 cents per transaction like Paypal.

With all the fees I am wondering if it is really worth it? Or if you are tech savvy enough with a Paypal account why not set up a Wordpress with the Paypal option of your own for donations? Then you only have the paypal fee...and you can have more personal option I would think.

I guess the only drawback there is it is not on a public site like kickstarter.

Thoughts?

Not a bad idea, the biggest stumbling block with running your own site would be getting the traffic and getting people to believe in and support your project.

I guess you could always budget for the fees that will be taken out by the host site as well.
