Someone was having a fun time making this list. Let's take a look at each weapon they chose.

1. Remington 870 Special Purpose Marine Magnum

Solid pick, any Remington shotgun is good to go. Damn near any pump action shotgun is a must.

2. Kahr PM9

Not my first choice by no means for a back up weapon, I would have went with a Walther or a Rugar LC9 but to each his own.

3. McMillan TAC-50

Seriously? Like these are falling off trees, hell if it's the case I want a Minigun. Pick one of these up and carry it for 5 minutes and then see if you agree. I pass on a fiddy lol.

4. Holland and Holland Royal Side by Side Shotgun

Solid gun . . . if it was 1900. A side by side lol we'll let whoever we don't like carry that one. The hell with history I want practicality.

5. Bushmaster Carbon 15 M4 Carbine

Pretty much ANY M4 is a must.

6. Springfield M1A SOCOM II

I'm fortunate to live 40 miles from Springfield Armory and got to fire the SOCOM before it went into full production, extremely solid weapon and it being in .308 it's a major plus.

7. Smith & Wesson Model 629

A solid revolver, 44mag might be a little much for some people but if you need a cannon this is it. I like the Colt Anaconda or even the Python(357).

8. AK-47

I'm on the fence on this one. If I already have a SOCOM then why the AK? No doubt great weapon though.

One gun they completely missed is a 22cal pistol. If your wanting something that can do an up close and personal job without drawing allot of attention to you then you have to add a 22.

my questions were 2,3,4 and 5 for pretty much the same reasons you mentioned, 5 just for the fact they chose the carbon m4 I was truly surprised the 10/22 or any 22 wasn't on the list, thanks for a great breakdown hired gun

In actuality .22 is all you need. A 10/22 with extra magazines and a .22 pistol for each person in your family and you can pretty much take care of anything you need. You may not take down a deer or feral hog but in a true SHTF situation you will probably focus on small game anyway.

Ammo is cheap and plentiful and you can carry 500 rounds in your jeans pockets.

I would definitely WANT a pump shotgun and a large caliber rifle but could manage without as long as I have a .22.

This list is incomplete without a 22. The reasons should just jump out at you. The author is clearly not thinking thi gs through.

I still can't figure the Tac 50 unless it is a shameless plug for an advertiser.

The AK makes sense, after all it is the second most common semi auto out there so keeping it feed should not be such a chore.

I'm 100% in agreement. You need a .22

Much more than you need a .50 BMG.

I dont know what all of those guns are. I would think in a truly short notice shtf situation, you'd want something that would be easy to operate for a layman. M16/M4 comes to mind first, but I was in the military so I'm very familiar with those. 8 seems like to many weapons though. I'd figure a .22 pistol, .22 rifle, 12g pump action shotgun with a long barrel, and a long range hunting rifle in addition to a semi-auto rifle M4/M16/AK47 type.
