Dude that gave some unknowing person $120 for that python is an arse.
Anywho, never attended one but I wonder what paperwork they have you fill out. All firearms that were taken off criminals had to be run for stolen and clearing house paperwork completed. I imagine there are a few stolen recovered at every buy back which would make me wary about a random purchase.
FYI, you guys probably already know but for a in state person to person transfer (if legal in your state) it doesn't hurt to have the seller or buyer present a voter registration card, concealed carry permit, and operators license. Some are even going a step further and insisting on a signed bill of sale.
Everyone knows... don't transfer to someone from another state.
And the monkey presses the button.

my father in law went to one here in michigan. the city was offering $100 gift cards to a local grocery store and he bought an 870, a marlin lever action, and a savage in 30-06 for $150 each. he said most of the guns were junk, mostly old pistols people had laying around that didn't work. he also turned in an old smith and wesson revolver with a jammed cylinder that was worthless. he went there looking for an AR, but no one was taking the city up on their $175 gift card offer. evidently none of the gang bangers were giving up their glocks, either. it really is laughable. the city buys up guns that probably should have been thrown away, for more than they're worth, and they probably haven't prevented a single crime.
and I agree with you on the transfer part, if I ever sell a gun, I'm going to do a transfer through the local shop, even though here in Maine you don't have to with a private sale. I made a mistake 20 years ago when I traded a 22 revolver with my brother in law at the time, come to find out 6 months later he was a huge coke head and him and my sister in law got divorced, I got nervous and called him and said yo, we need to get that 22 registered in your name, he said he couldn't find it, when he did he said he would call me, still never received a call to this day, I wonder what drug dealer in Philly has a .22 registered in my name in his possession. To be on the safe side, I called the state police and reported what happened, in case anything does happen, can't even trust family these days!
