I really dont think so. Every year these kinds of shootings happen. People get all whipped up for about 2 weeks then forget about it all. People are ultra sensitive due to the age of the victims here. But human life is human life and this is no worse than any other shooting. They are all bad. And most of these so called "advocates" have short memories. Like Morgan Freeman said, people so easily can recall the names and details of the shooters but couldnt tell you a single thing about the victims. Most of these people are riding the bandwagon, thinking it makes them seem intelligent, caring, and introspective.
Not to mention the size and power of the firearms industry.
Not to mention our own country carries out decade long wars killing thousands and thousands of men, women, and children.
Over time the landscape of the current gun laws will probably change. But will it change drastically just because of this? I doubt it. I really dont think many people care enough. For example, there are sites where people debating this issue all day long. They all of course have all the answers and solutions. But when presented with an opportunity to do something small, like for instance donate a few bucks, they pass.
End rant.

They are blaming guns because they see it as a much easier fix. Admitting to themselves that the world will remain dangerous, and that there is risk to every member of their families every day is difficult to do. The man rampaging with a knife outside the Chinese school recently is just further evidence that there will always be mentally deficient people that are willing to attack what we hold most dear despite the consequences, and regardless of the mode. Disarming the law abiding is the surest way to see more frequent and deadly attacks. When was the last time a gunman planned an attack on a location that they were certain had other armed folks? There are enough teachers and parents to provide the time and resource, just give them the training and psych evals to put an armed guards or five on every campus every time there are children present.

I bring it up to say that there is not a simple answer. The nature of the problem does not lie in inanimate objects. No guns, no knives, then you have a vehicle rampage as school is getting out, or homemade explosives, or homemade poison gasses. The black rifles do not bear the blame. Nor does a disarmed citizenry decrease the chances.
