Basic gun care is so simple that there is really no excuse for neglecting the chore. (Of course, if a part on your firearm breaks, you'll likely have to entrust the repair job to a competent gunsmith ... but, generally, routine maintenance will be up to you.)

I am sometimes guilty of not keeping my LCP in pristine condition and there really is no excuse. Good article. Im going to clean mine tonight. It is pretty amazing how cruddy they can get just being carried.

yeah, it's one of those things people put off when it shouldn't, we clean after every time we go shooting and every 6 months, plus we use dehumidifier beads in the safe
