This is going to be a bit lengthy but worth the read. This is a true story that happened to me about two months ago. I didn't post it on the OG because of the trolling it would have caused.

I went to the local supermarket with my mom around 730pm. I was carrying my EDC gun. I was walking towards the restrooms to hit the head, and I noticed a guy standing near the bathrooms. He was COMPLETELY out of place. He was wearing a hoodie with the hood up over his head and low over his forehead, had his hands in his pockets, and had jeans on. Six foot, 160lb African American.

As I turned the corner to go into the restroom he immediately got right behind me. No more than 2-3 steps behind me. I saw this out of the corner of my eye and automatically went into a defensive mode. I kept walking normally but sped up a tiny bit. Instead of just standing at a urinal I went straight into a stall, luckily it wasn't occupied. The guy was right on my heels, but opening the stall door made some space for me.

I went ahead and did my business but I kept my ears open. I noticed he wasn't doing anything but standing near the urinal. I finished and waited for a few seconds. He moved away from the stall, and that is when I got out. I had my left arm near my face just incase he did something and right hand near my pistol. As I stormed out, he turned towards me, but by the time I was out of the stall it was too late. I was gone.

As I found my mom I was thinking to myself... What just happened? Was I just being paranoid? Was I in danger?

After a few minutes I decided to talk to a manager and tell him what happened, that I was possibly going to get Robbed/Mugged.

As I was talking to him, the assistant manager overheard and came over. Turns out, she had been watching him for a while. He just stood near the bathroom for a few minutes at a time and would walk out of the store.

They asked for my information and asked if I would like to talk to the police. I said sure, why not.

30 minutes later the cops called me and I told them what happened. Turns out, the guy fit the description, albeit a bit vague, to someone who mugged a woman two blocks away the night before.

What's the moral of the story?

Be aware of your surroundings, if something or someone stands out, it is for a reason, it doesn't belong. Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, chances are, something is wrong. Once I got that "feeling" about the person in question, i memorized as much as I could about him. Weight, Height, Clothes, everything.

I was shocked this past weekend when we went to Boston. The amount of people in their own little Bubble that pay no attention to anything around them.

some advice an old timer gave me the first time i sat in a beat car:

when they get close and you know its coming......its always the the hands, watch them

look at people, in the face, without hostility or fear and remember what they look like

in the car, head on a swivel, window cracked even in cold weather, and know what street your on or what intersection your near

if you dont like how something feels or appears do something to change it

And the monkey presses the button.
