well depending on what I wanted to cache, I would oil it up very well, vacume seal it with oxygen absorbers, seal in pvc pipe, dig a hole, line with rocks for drainage and such, and probably fill with a good draining material like gravel and sand

couple examples

That's the direction I am now leaning actually. Maybe something as simple as a large plastic drum with a gamma lid &I a lot of some sort of dessicant for piece of mind.

My issue I have right now is do I just want to bury some valuables for "what if" I forget about em? That would mean not having daily, weekly access to these tools.

Or do I want to create a place that I could quickly get to &shook dump some things if I felt I needed too?

Hmmm...... 42 years old &I still playing "fort", lol.

KVR suggested what I did or at least close to it.

Metal is easy to find with a simple metal detector. Use camouflage an area with lots of metal. Junk yard or scrap bin. Or there is always a field of poison ivy as a natural deterrent.

A simple 6" pipe with capped ends placed vertically in the ground gives a smaller signature. And a long gun can be taken out of the stock and will fit nicely inside.

I sprayed a stripped AR with break free, vacuumed sealed it. Sealed it in a tube, buried it. Several years later I dug it up. No problems developed. Of course the firearm was dripping with the break free.
