The gun debate goes on.
I agree that the term 'assault weapon' is in my opinion misused and inappropriately applied, showing only the ignorance of the anti-gun lobby.
I am shocked that as a country we have not done more to address the many multiple mental health issues that impact almost every family in some way and mental health is certainly and issue of mass killers.
Politicos are always ready to pass new anti-gun legislation but rarely do anything to enforce the thousands of gun laws already on the books.
There is a true lack of knowledge that an AR, AK, Mini 14...whatever...with a 30 round mag is a force multiplier...homeowner against 2-3-4-bad guys.
We all know what the Second Amendment is, how we interpret it is a huge debate and probably not appropriate here...the thing is this...there is an actual Amendment regarding fire arms...there are none for Obama phone, food stamps, abortion, welfare, and other social programs; yet those type of items are well funded and strongly supported...more supported than an actual Amendment???
I don't have the answers for everyone...and this issue will be at the forefront in 2016 for sure...I don't think anyone will be happy with any outcome.

Good post Gravel. I get evil looks when I talk about this subject. Not necessarily because I'm pro gun or anything, but because I'm pro freedom. My personal opinion is that if it restricts the liberties spelled out in the constitution, it ought to be illegal. I get all kinds of flak for supporting the guys picketing Obama with confederate flags, and Westboro Baptist Church. While I thoroughly disagree with both groups, and I think they have poor taste and judgement, I fully support their right to speak up. Just like I disagree with safe zones on public college campuses. unless it's in your private dorm, it's public domain. I kind of support gay marriage, in that it's not the governments business who forms a union with whomever else, and that nonsense in TN shouldn't have been an issue, because why is the state issuing marriage licenses anyway? And I support the right to bear arms. The words "shall not be infringed" seem pretty clear to me. To me, the thought and idea of liberty for all is far more important than any one man.

KUnder the plan announced on Monday evening by the White House:
- All sellers must be licensed and conduct background checks, overturning current exemptions to some online and gun show sellers
- States must provide information on people disqualified due to mental illness or domestic violence
- FBI will increase workforce processing background checks by 50%, hiring more than 230 new examiners
- Congress will be asked to invest $500m (£339m) to improve access to mental healthcare
- The departments of defence, justice and homeland security will explore "smart gun technology" to improve gun safety

This Thursday at 8pm eastern, on CNN with Anderson Cooper, Obama is going to outline his 'vision and detail' on what he is going to do...but like K said above...everything is pretty much out about his plan...The part I like is that they/he are talking about addressing mental health, IMO this has long been overlooked as a national health issue in this country.
