For my 6 year old daughter. She is pumped to go squirrel hunting.

Originally I was going to go after this Savage Rascal. It has good metal peep sites, is easy to chamber a round, and weighs only 2.5 lbs.

But Chiappa came out with the Little Badger that is only a little larger/heavier at 3.5 lbs but can take my suppressor, has ammo storage, and can easily mount a scope or light (if I want to use it to shoot critters). I hear the peep sights on it are plastic but liveable.

Both are in the same price range. I am going to order the Little Badger -- I think it will grow more with the kids than the Rascal and it is already threaded for the suppressor.

Thoughts?

I have heard good things about the savage, that has the accu trigger as well doesn't it? What about a 10/22 takedown? I love mine, you're a great dad by the way, I bought my daughter the rossi 22/410 combo in pink camo

Cool man. My daughter isnt much for hunting and shooting. She has a little BB gun she will shoot cans with, etc...

Maybe one day.

Yeah, the second one is a compromise but I think it will fit our needs somewhat better. If I mailed off the savage to have the barrel threaded for my suppressor it would cost $75+. So it just puts that gun in a while different price range.

The Savage is the better youth rifle and the Little Badger is a better rifle.

Out of curiosity, why is the suppressor of such importance? You might be able to get some .22 sub sonic that could keep you as under the radar as possible.

I have no experience with suppressors as they are illegal here, so I am not sure how much difference one would make against sub sonic, but that could be an option.

KE -- No worries. I am very interested in all of my current and future 22's having suppressors since I have gone through the trouble of getting one I want to be able to use it on all I can.

I think it makes a huge difference -- even with a long barrel 22 and subsonic ammo. This summer we have had lots of family and friends visit. Not having to wear ear protection and really quiet shots has made the process of introducing people to firearms very easy. A lot of folks we know from the big city and other places know nothing about firearms and I think this is a great introduction.
