I am in no way defending this moronic police chief. He is an idiot and his public speaking and debate skills are at an elementary school level, but….. A firearm is not a defensive weapon and the term is an oxymoron. A firearm is not a shield it is a sword. It is defensive only because your attacker is dead or wounded to the point he has reevaluated his priorities and retreated. Furthermore a firearm in the hand of a lawful gun owner is used to intimidate. It is part of police training 101 that the lowest level of force on the “use of force continuum” is an officers presents on scene. Also from a civilian point of view, if I feel I am threatened by a potential attacker and face imminent death, serious bodily injury or a similar circumstance where I feel deadly force is authorized I will display a firearm in a manor the attacker may find intimidating. If the circumstances permit I will give a command as a warning to deter and “intimidate” the attacker into reevaluating his priorities and retreating. I think fundamentally what he said may be true in some ways, however how he said it and how he tired to twist it to fit his agenda is stunningly incompetent.

Seems to me that IS a defense. And the tool used for that defense is a firearm.

The whole idea is to NOT become a victim. To protect person and property. If someone is threatening that, however you use that tool (firearm) would be in defense of person and property. This all seems to be just word play to me, unless I'm missing something here.

best defense is the possibility of a terrifying offense, imo.

if you see my gun, it means I am ready to pull the trigger.
