I guess my question is, do you have to live in the states that have reciprocity with Maine to get a ccw permit through them?

With the exception of hunting season I rarely see anyone open carry in my AO. I have only ever had one complaint about someone open carrying and I am fairly certain the guy was from away. He just couldn’t understand how it could be legal for someone to walk down the street with a gun on his hip. Open carry would be problematic here without a permit as you would have to unload it every time you got in your vehicle to keep your Crayons inside the lines. I never do it because I fear it would draw attention and I prefer to stay as invisible as possible.

Well I went down to the town office today, the secretary asked if I was there for my renewal, Yep I said

So she went and grabbed a packet of papers and said sign here, here, there, here, here, here, there, here..

20 minutes later she said that will be 20 dollars, I gave her my money and said thank-you.

I turned around headed to the door and was thinking to myself, Sweet!

Just as I got to the door, I hear, Kyle do you have your birth certificate and drivers license on you? I see according to your file.

Quietly I sighed and turned around and walked back to the window, no I don't I said.

Well I need that for your file.

Sorry, but I have a issue giving that to you.

Her smile quickly turned to confusion.

I said I don't have a issue with you guys, it has nothing to do with that, but there is no reason in my mind the town would need to have a copy of my birth certificate, everything you guys would need to know to establish identity would be in my background check and such.

Well I can't take your money than until I talk to the chief, I wouldn't want to take it and then he deny your application,

I have no problem with that, is he in his office? I will go and talk to him myself.

Yep she said.

So I walked over to the chief's office in the building next door, he came to the window saw it was me and opened the door to let me into his office.

Hey Kyle

Hey chief

What can I do for you he asked.

Well chief, my CCW is up for renewal and I came to fill that and was told I needed to give a copy of my birth certificate.

Yeah he said, new rules went into affect last year.

That's what I was told I said, but I have a issue with the town having a copy of my Birth Certificate, there is no reason at all for that, the background check and everything else would tell you everything you need to know.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they need that, I believe it's to confirm Identity.

Fine I said, I request birth certificates all the time from people to establish Identity and employment eligibility when I fill out the I-9 with them, but the govt does not require I keep it on file. So what If I just bring it in and you look at it, establish what you need to establish, and I go on my way.

He thought about it a minute and said that might work, let me make a phone call and I will get back to you in the morning.

Okay I said, and left

to be continued

I have lived in a few open carry countries and it is refreshing seeing what everyone is carrying. Only people with concealed would be possible perps.

In my opinion people who open carry are usually better trained and live in less fear of a initial confrontation since everyone can see it will escalate.

Almost like everyone brings their manners to the table.
