A good product to have around the homestead to check the back field when you hear something in the middle of the night without using a flashlight. I have two NV products
one is the night owl, we had a problem with bears around town last summer, so I picked this up to quick check the pigs to make sure nothing was down there with them visiting
the other is the paladin scope, with night hunting coyotes in maine, this thing comes in handy
to be honest I prefer the night owl, the picture is better and more true, plus it takes standard batteries, not the funky ones the paladin uses.
Another cheap alternative would be a laser illuminator like the laser genetics. It just mounts on your scope and you site through your scope and the laser lights up your viewing field
one bad thing about that brand is it doesn't perform well in cold temps, but I do see they have a sub zero model now

Please tell us more about dis Night owl.
Which model ?
Where to buy ( I checked out the link), but would like other suggestions if any.
Any idea what it takes to mount on a rail like in the picture ?
Could see this possibly being useful when doing night trail rides as well, take a peak at what is ahead etc.
I took these pics tonight. I don't feel comfortable posting them because the paladin is not that bad a picture in real life. But I was holding my phone trying to take a pic through the scope. At the same time, it does give a good representation of the difference between the paladin and the night owl
this is the paladin (the quality is much better in real time)
this is the night owl, again the picture is much better quality in real time, but it does show the difference between the two. The picture is the exact between the two, our gazebo
as far as mounting the night owl there is a tap hole in the bottom of it to mount with
I bought mine off amazon,
I would have no issue buying one of the cheaper ones off wal-mart with their return policy if it wasn't what you wanted
here are some other night owls that are at wal-mart but most take the screwy 123 type batteries, I prefer using standard batteries I can recharge off solar panels
