I also need a light for my pistol!
We also keep the 12g next to MrsMedics side of the bed. It has a light and it is her preferred weapon, she is very comfortable/competent with it.
She once commented that the weapons werent accessable enough, so we now have weapons in several parts of the house. BUT we don't have kids and friends with kids have a)raised them around weapons b) know what the deal is at out house and know to let us know if kids are coming over.
I undertand the argument of clearing/not clearing, but personally I'm going down to confront the problem. I'm not waiting 30 + minutes for LE to arrive. and thats just not in my nature.
Sketchy story, glad you and yours are whole! and there is NO WAY i am messing with DBT, screw driver or no screw driver!

They're getting buckshot, 17 hollowpoints, or running from light & cocking.
Got the laser option too, in case I want to have some fun with my chandelier.
$25!
Another problem I have is that my home defense pistol is a Hi Point .45. I got it mainly because it was only $150 and I figured it'd work until I could test out some better quality pistols and decide which one I liked best. I'm not the type to swap out guns every so often. I want to find one I like and own it forever. This way I know it inside and out, how to take it apart, reassemble it, clean it etc so I can teach my wife and son. I plan to get a 9mm for my wife, maybe this week.

I have had my glock22 for several years, not one issue. its the only hand gun i own. MrsMedic knows it inside out and is very comfortable with it. i'm a big guy so it fits my hand well, just a little big for her. thinking about getting her a g23. best thing is to go shooting with some friends so she can try a bunch of different ones out. for me, that g22 is "my" gun, i won't own another. no need.

Deep Thoughts by Moro:
1. you may run into the popo when shtf because someone else called them. everyone armed or unarmed will be treated like a suspect. apologies come after the parties are identified. i.e. drop the &^&% weapon and get on the ground. the level of response will depend on several factors including those found to be armed.
2. if there is an open door to your home, there is a possibility that entry will be made depending on the crime, witness reports and the response or lack there of of parties within. refer to #1 as to how stuff goes down.
3. clear if you got the training...but if you had been well trained you know that a dude lying in a spot with cover and concealment has got the advantage over a dude clearing every single time. try going up narrow stairs to the second floor and see what breaks the plain first. have your wife lie flat on the floor in wait with a weapon as you ascend and have her cry out when she sees you. she will see you before you see her.
4. if youre gonna clear...cheat. its your house. you should know where the problems are. use objects to make some areas inaccessible and illuminate others.
And the monkey presses the button.

deeper thoughts:
1. one weapon(weapon system), learn it (make it your martial art), live it (each drill 10000 times) until you love it.
2.weapon lights on handguns...it takes two hands, you point your weapon at whatever you illuminate ( a popo might shoot you instantly), gives away your position (to a center mass or upper torso shot). consider a separate light (easy chair, night stand and in vehicle). I use Harries or modified FBI depending on location and purpose cause im a dinosaur.
3. use any lights sparingly. on then off...then move to a new spot.
4. lights on a carbine or shotgun work better. you already got two hands on the weapon but use them judiciously cause of #2 and #3. if you got a baby or several small kids someones gonna stay put. phone, light, and carbine or shotgun with this person. figure out where to hole up so youre not pumping rounds into their room while they sleep.
And the monkey presses the button.
